Un sito cinese ha messo in dubbio la loro effettiva età: Xiaoyu sarebbe nata nel 1998, mentre Yang nel 1989. Se così fosse, lei sarebbe stata troppo giovane per partecipare al JGP 2010/2011 e lui troppo vecchio. L'ISU ha comunque confermato gli anni di nascita che compaiono nel loro profilo ufficiale.
