    jpg

Tuktamisheva, Sotnikova will compete at the Youth Olympics
    liza-300x162

Elizaveta Tuktamisheva and Adelina Sotnikova will join the Russian national team to participate at the Winter Youth Olympic Games, said the head of the Russian delegation Valery Kuvaev.

2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, which also known as the first Winter Youth Olympic Games, will be an international multi sport event for youths and it will take place in Austrian Innsbruck from 13 to 22 January 2012. These Olympics will become the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics, a major sporting and cultural festival celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games.

Approximately 1100 athletes from more than 60 countries are expected to compete there. The decision for Innsbruck to host the Youth Olympics was announced on 12 December 2008 after the voting by 105 International Olympic Committee members. Austrian city will become the first city to host three Olympic events, having previously hosted the 1964 Winter Olympics and the 1976 Winter Olympics.

World Junior silver medalist Elizaveta Tuktamisheva this season has made a sensation in the world of figure skating winning two Grand Prix stages – Skate Canada 2011 and Trophée Eric Bompard 2011. Adelina Sotnikova is the reigning World Junior champion and the reigning Russian national champion.

“We have very talented figure skaters such as Elizaveta Tuktamisheva and Adelina Sotnikova, but I think it’s too early to talk about what our team will achieve there.” said Kuvaev at a press conference.

2012: THE YEAR OF THE FIRST WINTER YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES
    YOG_300
Welcome to 2012, YOG fans - it’s now the year of the first Winter Youth Olympic Games! To celebrate, Innsbruck 2012 welcomed in the New Year in style with the arrival of the Youth Olympic torch in Vienna and a fantastic street party.

And with just 12 days to go until this next chapter in Olympic history begins, we thought it would be cool to look back on where it all started, with the first ever Olympic Winter Games held in 1924 in Chamonix, France.

Amazingly, despite almost 90 years having passed, many of the sports haven’t really changed that much. What do you think? Take a look here:
