It turns out that the St. Petersburg Championship was your first competition. What happened before that? Why you did not compete in the Russian Cup series?
A: During the Russian Cup series I had a lot of quarantines. I was in contact with people who were ill, and it turned out that as soon as I came out, I started to get ready and had to get quarantined again, so I flew past all the stages. I couldn't qualify for the Russian Championship without them. But I didn't get ill myself.
How much time did you have to prepare for this competition?
A: Now I skated a lot. I was in a normal training process, I did run-throughs and I was quite well prepared.
How do you rate your performances?
A: On a scale of 10 probably on a six, on a seven. Of course there were some shortcomings in the free program. I'm completely satisfied with the short program, I was doing my best. In the free program, of course, I had some slip-ups, but I think it was because I hadn't had as much preparation as usual.
You kept both programs.
A: Yes. The coaches decided to keep the programs this year.
Of course, it's a pity that you were not able to qualify for the Russian Championship. What are your plans for further competitions?
A: Honestly, I do not know. This is such a very strange season, and it is impossible to guess what will happen next. Lots of competitions are cancelled because of the pandemic. Most likely there will be some more events in St. Petersburg. Now I just continue the training process in order not to get out of shape.
How difficult is to keep motivation when you do not know whether there will be more competitions this season?
A: First and foremost we skate for ourselves, we enjoy it. Of course it's a shame that sometimes we can't show it due to the situation. But I personally skate for myself, I like it and I enjoy it.

Commento mio: ha pattinato MOLTO meglio alle Olimpiadi che non agli Europei dove ha vinto l'oro. Se solo avesse pattinato così, anziché trattenuta, e con quella cautela, se lo sarebbe meritato di più. Fa dispiacere che sia andata avanti con il freno a mano tirato. Questo libero era decisamente migliore in tutto.
Gubanova soltanto 14° ai Mondiali 2023, dopo un libero un po' da dimenticare.
