Adam si è infortunato ad un piede, non parteciperà ai Nazionali USA, di conseguenza nemmeno ai campionati Mondiali.
La diagnosi è una distorsione alla caviglia e la frattura del quinto metatarso .CITAZIONEDefending U.S. figure skating champion Adam Rippon suffered a broken foot on Friday and will be unable to defend his title, he announced on Monday, but Rippon vowed that the setback would not deter him from his goal of competing in PyeongChang, South Korea for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
“You can mark my words,” Rippon said. “I don’t feel like I will only come back from this. I feel like I have laser focus to be much better because of this.”
Rippon delivered the news on a previously scheduled conference call, the subject of which was meant to be his preparation for the upcoming Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships being held Jan. 19-22 in Kansas City, Missouri. Instead, Rippon said that during routine off-ice warmup exercises prior to his first session of the day on Friday, he came down on his left foot and felt a crunch.
The diagnosis is a sprained ankle and fracture of the fifth metatarsal, and although it appears right now that he won’t need surgery, the injury is expected to keep him off the ice for eight to 12 weeks. Rippon called the injury “very low on the spectrum of severity” and said it is not career-ending.
The 27-year-old native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, also said that he plans to use the time off the ice to rehabilitate some smaller injuries and work on his flexibility, conditioning and other aspects of training to which he can’t always devote the time he’d like during the offseason.
“Only my left ankle is hurt,” he said. “There’s a lot I can still work on and improve.”
Already this season, Rippon earned bronze medals both at Skate America and the Trophee de France — where he scored personal bests in both the free skate and total points — and a place in the Grand Prix Final, where he finished sixth.
Last year’s national title was his first, and Rippon was looking forward to defending it against such talent as Jason Brown and up-and-comer Nathan Chen, Rippon’s 17-year-old training partner.
“As disappointed as I am to not be in Kansas City and have the opportunity to defend my title, I’m going to be OK,” Rippon said. “U.S. Figure Skating has this campaign right now called the ‘Get Up’ campaign, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I will get up. It’s who I am, it’s what champions do and I’m a champion.”
Rippon said he will initially remain at home in Los Angeles and then after nationals head to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to continue his rehab.
Crediting his upbringing and his mother’s influence for his positivity in the wake of this setback, Rippon believes when he comes back he’ll be more mature because of the time to reflect and focus on what he needs to do to reach his goals in the future.
Sitting on the bench near the ice immediately after the injury on Friday, he said, his first thought was simply that this will be part of his story, that he will be an Olympian and will refuse to give himself any other option than to be optimistic.
“I have 12 months before the national championships in San Jose and the Olympic Games,” Rippon said. “Twelve months is more than enough time to be prepared, especially with everything I’ve done, because when I come back I’ll have all the experience and work I’ve put in. It won’t disappear.”

It's me, Adam, but from the future.
You are going through a really tough time right now. You've just missed qualifying for the Olympic team for the second time in a row. You feel confused and you feel like a failure. It might not make sense right now, but this is truly one of the most important moments in your life.
Take a moment and be proud of yourself.
Do you remember being 13 and taking the Greyhound Bus from Scranton to Philadelphia every Monday morning so you could get to practice? You stayed with so many different families who made you feel like you were home when you were not. It was scary and you missed your own family very much but your mom always told you it wasn't a sacrifice if you got to do what you love. You lived in your coach's basement for a few months because you couldn't afford to live anywhere else. Not that long ago, you had so little money that sometimes you had to choose whether you paid for groceries or paid for ice time.
You work so hard, but you are even harder on yourself. Now, listen, this part is important: Stand up, walk to a mirror, look yourself straight in the eye and tell yourself: you are a winner. You won't see one looking back at you yet, but do this every day and you'll really start to learn what being a winner is. Being a winner is a mindset.
You've come out to your friends and family a few years ago and it made you feel so free, like you've grown wings. Do you remember growing up in Pennsylvania, thinking that being gay was something you would never tell anyone? When you publicly come out in the next year, you will let go of what other people think of you. You will hope to give someone else what you didn't feel growing up: permission to be themselves. You will be saying: "You are worthy."
Oh, and when you wax your eyebrows, start talking about how great they look. It'll be a hit.
Over the next few years, you'll get into the best shape of your life, mentally and physically, and you will feel so in control. You're not a teenager anymore and you've embraced that you aren't going to be as thin or light as some of your competitors. You worked on perfecting yourself instead of trying to change yourself.
You will become a national champion at 26 and your path to the Olympics will seem clearer than ever. But exactly one year before the 2018 Olympic team selection, you will break your foot. You'll fear everything you've worked for was in vain, but don't be discouraged. You are strong, you are brave, you can take on anything.
You, Adam, will make the Olympic team and skate on Olympic ice, it'll be a moment you've been waiting for your entire life. It'll be crazy, wild, emotional and very exciting. The world will see your character and they will embrace you for just being yourself.
You are a man now. You've challenged yourself and taken risks. You make people around you laugh, and help them like who they are. You've become the role model that you wished you'd had as a kid. You will look in the mirror and you will see someone you like. You will look in the mirror and finally see a winner looking back at you.
Sui suoi piani futuri scrivono questo:CITAZIONERippon said in June that he had “a lot of opportunities” to explore outside of skating. He’s currently a judge on “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors,” after beating Tonya Harding in May to become the sixth Olympian to win “Dancing with the Stars.”
“I’m always going to stay involved in skating,” Rippon said in June. “It’s always going to be a part of me. It’s a part of who I am for the past 20 years. It’s impossible to leave that.”. -
