We have to announce, that we decided to finish our active sport career...
At the end of last year, in December, Barbara started to feel discomfort muscle pain in her back and this pain didn't go away. We thought it causes a hard work we did for the preparation for Europeans and Worlds and that during vacation time muscles will relax and restore itself.
Unfortunately pain was still there, also during free time and Barbora started to solve problems with medical specialists in Vienna. Physical examination showed combination of serious problems in her lumbar spine. The first decision from medical team was minimum 6 weeks rest and then start with rehabilitation and bring spine muscles back to the condition.
We had our dream to be qualified for Olympic Games, we went for this dream a lot of years and finally we had a good chance to do it. All the documents for Juri's citizenship were prepared, music were chosen, motivation was still on a high level, so we decided to start preparation at least in September, there won’t be a lot of time, but still there were good chances.
Unfortunately, the last medical check showed that her long time stressed and overloaded body will need slow down the procedures and full recovery will take much more time and it is not sure, that everything will be healed up after all ….
In this unsure situation, where whole season must be skipped, we do not see the sense to continue wasting our time and energy for the goal we won’t be able to reach. It was a very difficult decision for both of us...
For all this years we have to thank a lot of people who helped us. Of course at the first place on the list will always stay our parents, they believed in us like no one did, they were proud of us when we reached our goals, and tried to cheer us up if something was not working. They were watching how we did our first steps on the ice, how many times we fell, how we skated our programs on competitions and smiled or were sad sitting in “Kiss and Cry”. Support as they gave to us, no one ever could give...
We have to thank to our coaching teams. Juri’s brother Dima and Vitali Schulz in Dortmund, where we started as a new couple. Team of Muriel Zazoui in Lyon with Roman Haguenauer, Olivier Schoenfelder and Diana Ribas, where we improved to our first international success and especially to our current coaches, Barbara Fusar Poli and Stefano Caruso. Our second family. Because only with them finally we began to make small steps to our desire. Because only with them we qualified for the free dance on the EC, and only with them we did top 20 on the last WC in Boston. Only with help of Barbara and Stefano we could have reached the qualification for OG. We love you! And we will miss you a LOT.
Thank you all Skate Austria Team, especially to Mrs. President Christiane Mörth, Stefan Grampelhuber and Katharina Rauch. Thank you for everything you did for us. You were fighting for us backstage and we won’t forget it!
We want to thank Matteo Zanni for being such a good technical specialist and friend for us... Corrado Giordani for make our moves more sensitive, we love you, Corra... Sophie Thomas and Astraee Company, your ideas of the costumes are the best we know, you made us look on the competitions special... Edea family and Flavio Valle, thank you for all support you gave to us, Flavio we'll keep telling', that your picture works are the best ones!.. MK blades, thank you for letting us believe, that everything will be perfect in a season, and sorry, that the situation turned finally like that...
As we said, it was a very difficult decision for both of us. But life is life, not everything can be as it has been planned. We will miss competitions and that adrenalin. We will miss practices, and we will miss our friends...
The new chapter of life has began.
Please, wish us luck!
Barbora & Juri.
