Five favorite things with Gracie Gold

The 16-year-old from Springfield, Ill., who dominated the junior ranks at the 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, Calif., competed internationally for only the second time, at the 2012 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Minsk, Belarus, where she took the silver behind 13-year-old Russian Julia Lipnitskaia.
"She is the best jumper in the U.S.," Alex Ouriashev, Gold's coach, said in the mixed zone after Gold's 23-point victory in San Jose.
We can only speculate that the high school junior -- whose twin sister, Carlie, also competes in the U.S. junior ranks -- stayed loose in Minsk by juggling and listening to Katy Perry on her iPod ... and she may have even worn her lucky T-shirt.
Icenetwork.com: When you're not skating or studying, how do you keep busy?
Gold: In the summertime, when it's more fun to play outside, Carlie and I like to do some tumbling; that's the floor part of gymnastics. We also like to swim outside. In the winter, I love reading.
Icenetwork.com: What's your go-to music for practice and working out?
Gold: I like anything that's playing on [SiriusXM] channel 2, the top 10 or top 20 hits -- like Adele, Katy Perry, a few Eminem songs -- but I don't really like rap that much. I like pump-up music -- it's good to skate to. One of my exhibitions is "The Show" by Lenka. It's a sort of quirky, fun piece.
Icenetwork.com: You're into fashion. What are your favorites?
Gold: For athletic and skating clothes, lululemon and Under Armour -- those are my two favorites. I'll go to lucy sometimes for shirts and jackets. For clothing stores, I like dELiA*s; they have some funny, quirky T-shirts. I also like Urban Outfitters and Armani Exchange, but that stuff is a little pricey.
Icenetwork.com: You're at a big competition. What are your good-luck charms?
Gold: Juggling before I compete -- that's sort of a little thing we have. (Watch Gracie juggle at the AT&T ICE Desk here.) At the rink I give little kids unofficial juggling lessons. I juggle with knitted hacky sacks in the locker room before every event. I've had a few lucky T-shirts I really like. I have this one -- it's from Armani Exchange -- it's black and it has gold cheetah print everywhere. I have these sparkly gold UGG boots I like to wear to competitions; they keep my feet warm. Those are my two favorite pieces of clothing.

Gold: I like pasta, pretty much any type. I love sushi ... probably sushi would be number one. I don't have it too early, because when I was little I used to get nauseous. I don't think I would now, but I want to stay away from raw fish. Carlie and I love sushi, any time of roll. The sliced ahi tuna is the best.
